Recherchons Beta testeur pour Okawix

Filed under: okawix — Pascal Martin @ 2:22

Bonjour,

payday loan yes review need payday loan immediately

  3. Quelle licence ? Quelles technos ? On peut voir le sources ?

    Commentaire by Arthur — 26 mai 2009 @ 14:19

    Commentaire by Sacha — 16 août 2009 @ 12:34

  21. @Sacha > Bonjour Sacha.

  24. Pardon my English: does Okawix use the Wikimedia Data dumps (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_dumps)? The Okawix downloaded version of the Afrikaans Wikipedia is terribly outdated (January 2009), even though much more recent dumps are available.

Thanks for a great program, though! It has great potential for school environments and as being distributed in areas where proper internet access is still a bit of a problem (like South Africa).

  25. Hello.
1.Is there any possibility to make a portable version of okawix?
When I install Okawix on a USB-Stick und start it on another computer it doesn’t show up the downloaded wikis.
    2. I changed my language to DE and now okawix doesn’t start any more. It says
« XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
    Location: chrome://interfacewiki/content/interfacewiki.xul
    Line Number 30, Column 1:<window xmlns:html= »http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml » xmlns= »http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul »
Reinstalling Okawix didn’t solve the Problem! Are there any files still stored on the Computer?

    Commentaire by skjern — 22 septembre 2009 @ 14:54

  26. @skjern > 1. Yeah, you can make a portable version of Okawix. After installing the wikis in « local », you’ll have to drag&drop them to the « embed » contents (just start a drag action on a wiki name in the sidebar and the « embed » section will appear)
    2. That’s a know bug with incomplete translation that has been fixed in SVN and that’ll be available in next Okawix release. For now, just edit your default/preferences/okawix-prefs.js file to change that line:
    pref(« intl.locale.matchOS », /*matchosBool*/false/***/);
    to
    pref(« intl.locale.matchOS », /*matchosBool*/true/***/);
then you should be again to start Okawix again and switch back to english.

    Commentaire by Guillaume — 23 septembre 2009 @ 13:56

  27. 1. Worked well, I loaded the dumps via FDM and they just wouldn’t appear. But then I descovered right click -> load local dump. after that i dragged them to ‘embed’.  Thanks!
    2. First didn’t work. Then I just deleted the file ‘okawix-prefs.js’ and okawix started and I was able to change the location. But why didn’t reinstalling Okawix help? Are there any Informations stored in the registry? I also deleted all « okawix »-relatet entries in the reg but wouln’t work either.

    Commentaire by skjern — 28 septembre 2009 @ 10:24

  28. @skjern > Reinstalling didn’t worked because Okawix stores your settings in your profile directory. On Windows that’s c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Linterweb\Okawix\Profiles\<something>.default\
Preferences are in the prefs.js file in that folder, I guess removing that file would have worked too…

    Commentaire by dev — 28 septembre 2009 @ 12:07

  29. Hi.  Great work!  Now I have the Wikipedia (without images) to browse offline!!!
One question – can I add the images to the dump I have (Okawix.Torrent.Pack.2009.08.23-SladePublishing) rather than do a full download again (I have a very limited and sporatic Internet connection)?

Also, if I could be so bold as to make a suggestion, wouldn’t it be economically more beneficial to offer USB keys of perhaps 8 gig and have the files spread over 3 or 4 of them? A self-extracting .Rar or .Zip file could easily prompt for the next key, simplifying installation.  The cost would be much less.  Imagine, if you got the keys at wholesale, loaded them with Okawix and the dumps, you could sell the keys at normal retail price and the purchasers would then get the software for free!  Sounds to me like a good marketing strategy – and your company could make a good profit.  It might be worth a try…
Best of luck in your business ventures!

    Commentaire by Brian Russell — 23 octobre 2009 @ 8:55

  37. @Brian Russell >
I’m not sure exactly what you are asking – whether you mean the Okawix program files themselves, or the downloaded data file (the 5gig+ file).

If you mean the downloaded data file, maybe this is useful. (This is about the initial installation of the data file into the Okawix program.)

The downloaded data file can be anywhere – start Okawix, try left-clicking and find where it says « add new corpus from local file ».  Click that, navigate to where the data file is, and then it will unzip the files into your Okawix installation directory (without changing the original downloaded data file).  I think that is what I did to get things working – I hope I’m remembering correctly.
Warning!  Be patient – it takes a _long_ time to decompress and create the actual files that Okawix uses – if I remember it took 5 or 10 minutes.
    Hope this helps…

  39. Bonjour!

    Excuses-moi, vous ne parlez anglais… :-)

Sorry for writing in English, but my french is hardly existent, so I hoped that you guys might be able to reply in English… thanks anyway for your great software!

I was seriously considering using your software as an offline browser for a volunteer project that I’m leading in 3 weeks in Sierra Leone, Africa. I’m leading a group of experts in a project that deploys computing, media and solar power in our orphanage and boarding school in one of the poorest place in the world. I wanted to use okawix for wikipedia, wikibooks, and wikiversity including all the images for all. I’ve downloaded the content and used the software for some while.

I’m facing two main issues that prevent me from using the software:
    1) The main problem is that the wikibooks version (and the wikipedia version?) is very outdated and lacking many resources. Considering that our orphanage is offline, and very remote, I’d like to supply them with a pretty recent database. Is it possible to download more recent databases for the discussed depots?

    2) I’d like to have all the okawix « data » files installed on a main NAS device, and have all the okawix-running-laptops pointing to that device by default. I couldn’t understand if there’s a simple way to configure okawix this way.

I hope you can assist me urgently as this would be very useful for our project,

Actually for every item i search in Okawix, the proposed result has always nothing to do with the searched item ( E.g. i search for « Dante » and Okawix proposes me « Civilta’ etrusca »!!!!!!!) and sometimes the search lead Okawix to crash.

  51. Pardon my English! I promise to have half-decent French this time next year! :)

I downloaded an English wikipedia corpus en.wikipedia.okawix (7.46gb), but I can’t seem to get it to install into Okawix.app (Running Mac OS X 10.6). When I select ‘Add new corpus from local file’, it becomes unresponsive for about 5 minutes, and when it responds again, there is no new corpus. There is, however, a new folder called « en.wikipedia », and inside there is one file called « en.wikipedia.zeno » (1.83gb). I tried this with a smaller corpus (kg.wikipedia.okawix, 307kb), which worked fine and produced a folder (kg.wikipedia), within which there are 7 items (article.index, article.map, entry.url, kg.wikipedia.zeno, licence.xml,word.index,word.map). Any ideas what’s going wrong?

    Commentaire by Gabriel Wyner — 23 décembre 2009 @ 15:27

  52. (Part 2)
Where on earth are the settings for Okawix 0.7 stored on the Mac? I’ve somehow messed up my Okawix install (it shows the Mozilla homepage and doesn’t allow me to add any new corpuses or languages), and I’d like to reinstall and start over. If I delete prefs.js inside the application contents itself, the application stops opening, however I can detect no trace of any other file elsewhere on my mac. Deleting the application and reinstalling doesn’t help (and if I, for example, change the skin and then delete the application and reinstall, it remembers what skin I chose, so there must still be a preferences file somewhere.) Where do I look??

    Commentaire by Gabriel Wyner — 25 décembre 2009 @ 5:15

  53. (Part 3)
The problems with installing the english corpus have to do with a problem Okawix has in decompressing the big .okawix file. Changing the extension to .zip and unzipping it outside of the program works decently well. However, the search function doesn’t return any search results. Any ideas?

    Commentaire by Gabriel Wyner — 25 décembre 2009 @ 15:46

  54. In my opinion there is still another problem with the Italian images dump. It’s supposed to be a 6GB pack (as from Okawix declaration), but the download stops at about 1.7 GB (or 0.8 in some attempts) and the process brokes down.
Would you please mind to check it out again?
    Thanks in advance.

  56. Hello.

You mentioned that « for now » it is impossible to update the content. Does it mean that you are working on an option of systematic updates similar to current RSS feed browsers? That feature at some point in the near future would be very helpful…

    Thanks!
    ;e)

    Commentaire by erik — 6 janvier 2010 @ 2:34

  57. @erik> First we need some way to generate diff files between two different dumps of the same content. When we got that working, we could work on ways to distribute it.

@Silvano> dumps are automatically generated every 4 months or so. When there’s problems with dumps, we can force generation like we did with Italian dump. We do not provide yet a way to know when contents were generated or when it’ll be generated again.

@Gabriel Wyner> ok, there may be a problem with our unarchiving component on Mac, will check that.

    Commentaire by Gabriel Wyner — 6 janvier 2010 @ 10:58

  59. @Gabriel Wyner> We know that the search function is not working on some Macs, but we’ve never been able to debug it as it’s working on our Macs. We would need a Mac testbox where search is not working or, at least, someone that could help us in debugging it.

    fr.wikipedia.tar, fr.wikipedia.img.zeno
    fr.wiktionary.tar, fr.wiktionary.img.zeno

First I installed Okawix, then I unpacked the three tar files which created the corresponding directories, I copied the img.zeno files in the corresponding directories, but I am not able to access the different files when I launch Okawix???

  71. There’s already a link to the article history: click on « ? », then « about » and on the wiki name just after « Copyright ». That box used to be easier to reach, but got moved one click further when we added the internal documentation.

    Commentaire by Clemens — 23 mars 2010 @ 0:24

  79. @Clemens you can add them either via the GUI or via command line option:
    * in the GUI, open the context menu, then choose « add corpus from local file » and select your .okawix files
    * from the command line, run « okawix your-content.okawix »

  82. Bonjour,

  84. Hello,

we have the following problem: We’d like to use Okawix with the German Wikipedia incl. images but when downloading with Okawix it would last about 30 hours. In this time there’s a loss of connection just after 5 hours or after 24 hours at least. So Okawix is not able to download all the data and cancels. Our internet connection is slow so we tried downloading at university and succeeded to get the text corpus. But the images cannot be downloaded completely there too – just because of any interruption.
We then tried downloading the images with a downloadmanager (found address in the source of the download-html page) and leaded « www.okawix.com » to localhost so that Okawix could download thew whole images-corpus in a few minutes. But when starting the second progress bar (decompressing? indexing?) it works some time and then brings up an error message saying that it was unsuccessful.

My question is now: How can we get the downloaded images-file working with Okawix or is there a torrent download for German Wikipedia incl. images (perhaps with whole subdirectory out of Okawix) so that people with slower internet connection could get it from there?

For your info: We are using Okawix with Ubuntu / Suse / Linux Mint and also tried the Windows Version… all the same

    Best regards,

    Lucas

  85. In fact, images zeno can be downloaded via bittorrent, just replace .okawix with .img.zeno in the URL, for instance de.wikipedia images torrent is located at:

    http://91.121.92.45/zeno/de.wikipedia.img.zeno.torrent

The downloaded .zeno file need to go in the de.wikipedia directory created when de-archiving the de.wikipedia.okawix file.

  87. Great work on this, guys! As above, sorry for my English — my French is usable enough that the above Q&A was very informative, but I still don’t trust it enough to ask my own question :-)

Is there any supported way to burn an executable Okawix corpus to DVD? I work with a group that supports humanitarian projects in Nicaragua, and I had the idea to send a batch of DVDs containing a Spanish-language dump of Wikipedia to villages where there is little or no internet access. I’m really fond of the Okawix interface, but I don’t have the time to play with batch executable files for running a « portable » app the way I’d loved to have done five years ago ..

    Thanks!

  88. Hi, my review of okawix 0.7

good fast and useful in the end

but= cant read a book and browse the wiktionary in seperate window
lost about 20 gb of downloads due to multiple download interrupts as okawix doesnt resume
i would prefer the latest wiki dumps that some old okawix zeno version
i cant get things like wikispecies
i had to use a download manager and it took me a lot of lost downloads to find the info on where and how to download okawix files
the way to read it in high contrast is use the high contrast shortcut on windows, it converts all the wiki html to black background, i edited the chrome skin ‘css to be dark too. – i like reading with the lights down abit.

thanks alot program is very convenient and great, thanks so much.

  90. Hi and Congratulations for your great work on the Wikipedia Offline project !

I’ve downloaded the latest version of Okawix (version 0.7 for Windows) a few days ago and started to download the English Wikipedia (with images). My line is fast (stable at 21-22 Mbps and my download speed was also stable at around 2 MB/sec) but after a while (after the first 1-2 GBs downloaded) the application crashes.

I have tried this many times from two different computers (my desktop and laptop PC), it crashes on both systems (one has Windows7-32bit, the other has Windows XP-32bit). Every time I was restarting my system and then starting the Okawix application right away (with no other apps running at all).

Yesterday I decided to download the torrent file of English Wikipedia instead (6+ GBs without images) which I managed to do without problems. But when I open the file from within Okawix and trying to add images to it (total images size 19 GB), the application crashes again after a while (after the first 1-2 GBs again or so).

Would it be possible for you to upload a torrent file containg the images as well ? (the one with the total size 26 GB). Or perhaps to suggest another solution ?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

    best regards,
    Michael

  93. Hi All,

I downloaded the English bittorrent file which contains « en.wikipedia.okawix ».
I have no clue how to install it. I can’t find a solution with Google either.

If I rename the file to .zip and extract the files in the root, I get a folder named « en.wikipedia ». This looks good, but the program Okawix doesn’t recognize it.

Can someone tell me please how to add a file which you’ve downloaded with Bittorent?

  94. I found a solution to the above problem.
Right mouse button in Okawix –> Add new corpus from local file

Second question.. The search doesn’t work. When I enter a search query I do get suggestions, but when I press the search button, nothing happens?

Third question, when i select « Open in External Brower » the external browser opens, but wikipedia doesn’t load. In Internet Explorer i just get: « page not found »?

Is there a way to do the install on another computer and move the various files and indices? I tried manually copying the various generated folders (like it.wikipedia and so on) and editing the file ~/.linterweb/okawix/ProfileName/zenopaths, but it seems this is not the right place, since it not rewritten when starting Okawix.

  102. Hi,

I’m using Okawix 0.7 on Vista Home Premium SP2.

I’m able to download smaller Wikis – e.g. Dutch, Danish – but when I try to download the German Wiki (3.5 GB without images) the program gets to 2.5 GB and then the download freezes. I’ve tried multiple times. I’ve read that other people have had this problem too.

One day I’d like to download the English Wiki. But if I can’t do the German, then there’s no chance.

Shame, because the software otherwise looks excellent! Merci beaucoup.

    Encore merci :)

  107. Hi Wikipediaman, thank you for your feed back.
You’re not completely wrong, but the whole story is actually a bit more complicated: we’re not allowed by Wikimedia a direct access to Wikimedia databases.
A consequence of this restriction is that we are informed through a RSS feed only of major modifications to articles. And if, for example, the RSS service is temporarily unavailable, we miss all modification notifications, those of major ones too! And if we miss any notification, we have no way of retrieving them later!
But, normally, when everything works fine, we do take into account all major modifications to articles.
    Cheers :-) Matthieu.

  112. Hi!
Seems like the perfect program for my Mac, but I’m experiencing some problems:
I was trying to download the hungarian wikibooks section, which seemed to have been downloaded without a problem. However when I open it, there are lots of things missing from it. Articles, part of the article, whole entries, etc. Tried downloading it again, but its still the same. Any suggestions? (tried googling it, but didn’t find anything…)
Is it possible to use the dump files, if I download those for the hu.wikibooks?

    Thanks!

    Commentaire by Sántha János — 12 avril 2011 @ 15:23

  113. Hi Sántha,
    Thanks for your feedback.
I’m not completely sure of what you mean. If you’re asking if it is possible to download and use in Okawix the dump files available on the hu.wikibooks website, the answer is: no, it’s not possible, as the dump files available on the various Wikimedia projects are simple HTML files that don’t fit the Okawix file format used by our program (the Okawix file format is especially designed to fit the needs and the structure of archives like those of the Wikimedia projects, and also provides compression features). Sorry :-(
As for the problems that you’re experiencing with our archives, we’ve got a dedicated bug tracker page for that: http://www.okawix.com/beta-test.php. You may notice that hu.wikibooks is unfortunately not currently present on this bug tracker page. It’s because we only provide the bug trackers of the last updated archives, which doesn’t currently include hu.wikibooks :-(
But when we will generate a new updated archive of hu.wikibooks (each archive being updated every few months), the bug tracker corresponding to hu.wikibooks will appear again on this page, and you’ll be able to report bugs. Also, could you maybe make us the favour of keeping an eye on this page (for instance by adding this RSS feed to your favourite RSS reader: http://www.okawix.com/beta-test.rss), so as to be informed of and test any new hu.wikibooks updates?
In the meanwhile, we’re naturally going to take into account your feedback for the next hu.wikibooks archive (probably in a few months).
Thanks again, take care :-) Matthieu.
